Men’s Relationship Counselling
Client:
Theodore (39)
Issue:
Theodore is struggling in his new relationship. He has a history of getting angry and irritated easily, and is noticing how this is upsetting his partner. They are also fighting frequently, and he isn't sure what he needs to do to help the situation.
How R&L Helped:
The R&L counsellor provided Theodore with clear strategies to help him to better control his emotions. These strategies took into account his relationship history and present circumstances, and encouraged Theodore to reshape his understanding of what it means to be a healthy male. Theodore appreciated having concrete strategies to work on, and noticed quickly how they helped him to keep his emotions in check.
The R&L counsellor also provided Theodore with practical interventions to help him communicate more effectively with his partner. Not only were these strategies designed to help Theodore and his partner to "get on the same page" more, but they helped keep emotions to be kept under control more during conflict.
After five sessions, Theodore had noticed significant improvement in his relationship and a reduction in his frustration and anger levels in general. He also felt that he now had the communicative tools to work through conflicts heading into the future.
