Tired of the tantrums & tears? Why1-2-3 Magic Emotion Coaching is the parenting course for you

Inconsolable child prompts parent to attend parenting program

As we highlighted in a previous blog post, parenting is one of the most significant roles and responsibilities we can have in life. It can be immensely rewarding, full of special moments, and gives us a deep sense of purpose. But it can also be incredibly hard, relentless and full of challenges.

To provide guidance and support for parents, Robertson & Ling run a variety of parenting programs, including 1-2-3 Magic Emotion Coaching, a program aimed at parents with children aged 2-12. So: when should you do 1-2-3 Magic? Here are three reasons why it might be the right program for you and your parenting:

  1. You’re child’s emotions are causing you big headaches
Whilst tantrums and the “big” emotions that come along with them are normal for children, it can still be a hard and overwhelming thing for parents to experience. It’s critical that parents learn how to respond in a way that not only supports and cares for children well, but that also helps children to recognize and regulate their emotions in an age-appropriate way. 1-2-3 Magic provides parents with this skillset.

  2. You’re not sure which behaviours to respond to, which to let slide
Children display a LOT of less-than-ideal behaviours, and parents simply cannot respond to all of them. That would make for a very drained and tension-filled household! But which behaviours should you respond to, and which should you ignore? 1-2-3 Magic provides a framework for answering these exact questions.

  3. You’re not sure what the consequence for unacceptable behaviour should be
At times, children will behave in a way that is unacceptable, and that requires a consequence. However, sometimes it can be hard for parents to determine what an appropriate consequence for a behaviour should be. Are they being too “soft?” Are they being too “firm"?” Should they use “timeout?” 1-2-3 Magic provides excellent guidance to parents on when and how to provide consequences.
